Since its formation in the 70s…PuDSA ELECTS SOMBO FORTUNE AS FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT

Since its formation in the 70s, the Pujehun District Student Association (PuDSA ) has, on Friday, 12 January 2024, conducted its highly anticipated student union elections, culminating in the declaration of Madam Sombo Fortune as the first female President of the Association.

The election, which took place in Pujehun Town, Barry, saw two candidates vying for the presidency: Sombo Furtune and Jenny Massaquo.

Addressing the assembled delegates and observers, the Electoral Commission Chairman, Mohamed Caulker, emphasized the importance of maintaining exemplary behavior throughout the electioneering process.

 He assured all participants of a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, highlighting that the Independent Electoral Commission had granted them the authority to conduct the election.



The Local Unit Commander in Pujehun, Rashird  Koroma, emphasized the significance of a  peaceful election. He called on all individuals to conduct themselves responsibly and maintain order throughout the election process.

The results revealed a closely contested race after the votes were cast and counted. Sombo Fortune secured 44 votes, while Jenny Massaquo received 41 votes. With a narrow margin, Madam Sombo Fortune emerged as the winner and was declared the President-elect for the 2024 academic year.

The announcement of Madam Fortunes’ victory was met with jubilation by her supporters, who celebrated the successful conclusion of the election.

The newly elected President expressed her gratitude to the student body for their trust and promised to work diligently to address their concerns and improve the overall student experience in Pujehun District.

The Pujehun District Student Association's election underscores the importance of student participation in democratic processes and exercising their rights. It serves as a significant platform for students to voice their opinions, elect their representatives, and contribute to the development of their educational institution.

The Pujehun District Student Association and its newly elected President now embark on a new chapter, advocating for students' rights, promoting their welfare, and fostering a conducive academic environment.

As the academic year progresses, it is hoped that Madam Fortunes’ leadership will bring positive change and progress to the student community in Pujehun District as the first female president in the organization’s history.
