In a momentous display of diplomatic engagement and global cooperation, Her Excellency Mrs. Francess Piagie Alghali, Sierra Leone's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, took center stage at the UN Security Council Chamber during the Ministerial Level Briefing on "Maintenance of international peace and security: Nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation."

This significant event, hosted as the second signature event of Japan’s presidency of the Council, underscores Sierra Leone's commitment to global peace and stability.

The exchange of pleasantries between Her Excellency Alghali and UN Secretary-General His Excellency Antonio Guterres marked the beginning of an insightful session dedicated to crucial discussions on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. The presence of Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Her Excellency KAMIKAWA Yoko as the chairperson further highlighted the collaborative efforts among nations towards these critical issues.

Deputy Foreign Minister Madam Alghali's upcoming delivery of Sierra Leone’s statement amplifies the nation's voice on the international stage, emphasizing the importance of collective action in advancing nuclear disarmament agendas. The involvement of key figures such as Secretary-General Dr. Robert Floyd of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization and Ms. Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova, Director of the International Organizations and Non-Proliferation Program (IONP), Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, in briefing the Council underscores the depth of expertise and dedication driving these discussions forward.

As global challenges persist, the active participation of nations like Sierra Leone in high-level diplomatic forums signals a united front in tackling pressing global issues. The commitment shown during this briefing not only reflects Sierra Leone's dedication to international peace and security but also heralds a broader call for continued collaboration and dialogue among nations to achieve a safer and more secure world for all.
