SEND ORGANIZATION EXPRESSES GRATITUDE WITH THANK YOU TOUR TO TROCAIRE HEAD OFFICE

 Kadijatu Hayles, Lungi

Sierra Leone's Special Enterprise for Development (SEND) organization, accompanied by a delegation of young women from the Governance Network, embarked on a thank-you tour to the Trocaire Head Office in Freetown on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024. The visit aimed to express appreciation for Trocaire's ongoing partnership with SEND and their significant contributions to empowering young women across Sierra Leone in addressing climate change and related issues.

Mary Wokie Dassama, the Coordinator of SEND Sierra Leone in Kenema, conveyed the organization's gratitude for Trocaire's support over the years. She emphasized the importance of Trocaire's efforts in raising awareness among young women in the Governance Network about the negative environmental impacts of certain activities. Before their training, many young women were unaware of the consequences of their actions. Through SEND's initiatives, they established a platform for adult and young women in governance to advocate against climate change and other societal challenges.

Emily Curran, Head of Program at Trocaire, warmly welcomed the delegation of young women in governance and expressed appreciation for their projects' positive impact in communities across the country.

Curran further expressed the organization's intention to involve young women in governance through SEND Sierra Leone in future projects, recognizing their valuable contributions and potential.

Kumba Amara, the National President of the Young Women in Governance Network, highlighted the significant transformation that occurred among young women after they received training on climate change.

Previously unaware of its effects, they became knowledgeable and could disseminate the message to schools and villages. Amara stressed the importance of providing alternative livelihoods for individuals whose current means of survival involve burning coal and cutting wood.

Additionally, she recommended implementing recycling programs for rubber and plastic materials within communities to maintain a healthy environment.

The thank you tour allowed SEND Sierra Leone and the Young Women in Governance Network to express their gratitude to Trocaire for their support and collaborative efforts in addressing climate change and empowering young women. The visit showcases the commitment of both organizations to work together towards a sustainable future for Sierra Leone.

As the partnership between SEND Sierra Leone and Trocaire continues to flourish, their joint efforts are expected to enhance young women's capacity in governance further, promote environmental awareness, and contribute to positive change within Sierra Leonean communities.
