PUJEHUN LAUDS MAGISTRATE FOR COURT PROCEEDINGS & LEGAL EDUCATION

 Hassan Juana Koroma in Pujehun

Magistrate George  Edwin, currently presiding over the circuit court in Pujehun, has garnered significant praise from stakeholders in the Pujehun District for his commitment to education and fair judgments.

Residents, as well as prominent figures such as former Minister of Social Welfare, Gender, and Children's Affairs, Hon. Monjui Kaikai, and civil society activist Abdul J. Sillah, have expressed their satisfaction with Magistrate Edwin's courtroom conduct and his efforts to enlighten attendees about the reasoning behind his decisions.

During court proceedings, on February 14, 2024, Magistrate George Edwin was diligent in educating those present about the basis for his sentencing or discharge of cases.

This approach has resonated with the public, as they feel better informed and more satisfied with the outcomes of the cases.

Hon. Monjui Kaikai commended the magistrate's commitment to imparting legal knowledge, stating, "Magistrate Edwin's educational approach in arbitrating cases is commendable. It helps people understand the reasoning behind his rulings and brings a sense of satisfaction."

However, Hon. Monjui Kaikai expressed concern over the quality of investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Family Support Unit (FSU). He attributed the dismissal of cases to improper investigations, describing this situation as frustrating.

It is worth noting that Magistrate George  Edwin's fair judgments and emphasis on evidence and due process have led to dismissing or discharging cases lacking merit or sufficient evidence.

Abdul J. Sillah, a prominent civil society activist, described the arrival of Magistrate Edwin as a "blessing in disguise." Sillah highlighted the plight of inmates who may be languishing in correctional centers for crimes they did not commit or for offenses that could have been resolved through family or out-of-court settlements. Sillah praised the Magistrate for his wisdom and discernment in promptly dismissing or throwing out cases that lack evidence or face delays in proceedings.

Sillah further commended Magistrate George Edwin's dedication to educating individuals about the implications of their actions. By clearly explaining the reasons behind his decisions, Magistrate Edwin ensures that defendants understand the consequences of their actions and the justice system's fairness.

Magistrate George  Edwin's commitment to legal education and fair judgments has earned him widespread appreciation and respect from stakeholders in Pujehun. His efforts to enlighten attendees about the rationale behind his decisions have provided transparency and instilled confidence in the justice system.

As the magistrate continues to uphold the principles of justice and equality, he will likely leave a lasting impact on the community and the administration of justice in the District.
