The Paramount Chief of Nongowa Chiefdom Kenema District, PC Sadiq Matoe Kapuwa, has vehemently refused to accept the unanimous decisions of his colleagues, the Paramount chiefs of the sixteen Chiefdoms in Kenema District, regarding the election of PC Al-Ameen Kanneh of Koya Chiefdom as the Paramount Chief Member of Parliament for the entire Kenema District.
This came about after all the custodians of tradition representing the sixteen chiefdoms in Kenema District signed a document among themselves vowing to accept the outcome of any results. During that material time, three (3) among the sixteen paramount chiefs contested for the position. Amongst them were PC Sandi Momoh Fowai of Dama Chiefdom, PC Sadiq Matoe Kapuwa of Nongowa Chiefdom, and PC Al-Ameen Kanneh of Koya Chiefdom, all in Kenema District.
The election result indicated that PC Sadiq Matoe Kapuwa of Nongowa Chiefdom got three (3) votes, and PC Sandi Momoh Fowai of Dama Chiefdom got one (1). In comparison, PC Al-Ameen Kanneh of Koya Chiefdom got twelve (12) votes, all out of the sixteen votes. Automatically, PC Al-Ameen Kanneh of Koya Chiefdom Kenema District was declared the winner of the Paramount Chief Member of Parliament position for Kenema District.
However, a few days after the whole process, PC Sadiq Matoe Kapuwa of Nongowa Chiefdom Kenema District publicly stated that he refused to go by the outcome, and therefore, he does not recognize PC Al-Ameen Kanneh as the winner of the PCMP Position for Kenema District. To further solidify this, the Paramount Chief has gone to the Eastern Regional Office of the ECSL for a fresh nomination.
To further make the contest more intensive, other Paramount chiefs that are supporting the supposed winner, PC Al-Ameen Kanneh, also urged him to as well proceed to the ECSL's Regional Office East for a similar nomination since PC Sadiq Matoe Kapuwa has refused to accept what they all agreed to as custodians of the land.
At the nomination ceremony at the Regional Office of the ECSL in Kenema, some paramount chiefs publicly revealed that they would never allow PC Sadiq Matoe Kapuwa to perform any form of campaign activity in their Chiefdom.
It is believed that PC Sadiq Matoe Kapuwa of Nongowa Chiefdom Kenema District once lost this same position to the predecessor, the late PC Foday Fabbah of Dodo Chiefdom Kenema District because a host of other Paramount chiefs don't see him as a worthy representative for them.
The battle line has been drawn, and AIMNet Newspaper will follow proceedings as things unfold.
