PARAMOUNT CHIEFS ENDORSE PC AL-AMEEN KANNEH AS PCMP FOR KENEMA

During a courtesy call on the SLPP Kenema District Executive, the Paramount Chiefs of Kenema District endorsed PC Al-Ameen Mustapha Kanneh of Koya Chiefdom Kenema District.

Presenting the PC Member of Parliament Candidate to the Party District Executive, the Regent Chief of Small Bo Chiefdom, Chief Ishmael Koroma, disclosed that the election of PC Kanneh was unanimously agreed upon after an agreement was struck among them as Paramount Chiefs that who so every shall win the election conducted by the 16 paramount Chiefs should represent them in the well of parliament. He added that to authenticate the consensus, all paramount Chiefs prepared and signed a document, including the three who contested the position.

Chief Koroma noted that out of 16 paramount chiefs, 12 voted in favor of PC Kanneh of Koya Chiefdom, 3 for PC Kapuwa of Nongowa Chiefdom, and 1 for PC Fowai of Dama Chiefdom. He therefore emphasized that based on their agreements, PC Kanneh got the highest votes cast and was therefore elected as PC Member of Parliament Candidate for Kenema District, and he is not expecting any individual to challenge it as it is the will of the people.

In response, the Party's District Chairman, who also doubles as the Deputy Internal Affairs Minister, Mr. Moriba S. Koroma, thanked the Paramount Chiefs for their respect towards the Leadership of the party, adding that traditional rulers had always played a pivotal role in the country’s diversity, something he wants to appreciate deeply. He told them that their endorsement meant a lot to him as the SLPP party has rebranded and shaped the beautiful game of politics in the District by putting the interests of the people above all else.

He admonished all to create a District that would work for all as a peaceful and secure society founded on law and order and the rule of law. A District that enables development and values outcomes so that Kenema can grow and provide jobs and opportunities for millions of young people. A District where no one is left behind.

 

Mr. Koroma said the kind of District he wants to see is one that will have regular representation in all sectors of national development, but that can only happen when they are together as stakeholders.

The Party's Chairman emphasized that over the years, Paramount Chiefs had been at the forefront of ensuring that Sierra Leone gets fair due, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity. He disclosed that he is honored to have met and spoken to the Chiefs of Kenema District in what he describes as unity in one spirit.

Mr. Koroma acknowledged the Paramount chiefs for their support of them as a political party, adding that the chiefs are the party's rightful owners.

He said their focus as a political party is to win the 2028 election and maintain the District as their stronghold, referring to the grassroots as his priority.

He described himself as one of the rightful indigenes of Kenema District and distanced himself from the rumors indicating that he was not an indigene of Kenema District.

PC Kanneh is expected to face the Sierra Leone Electoral Commission any time this week for his validation process.
