By Morlai Sesay

The Office of the Ombudsman has, in a Press Statement dated Friday, 19th January 2024, updated the public that it has opened an investigation into the sacking of 100 staff members of the Parliament of Sierra Leone.

According to the correspondence, the attention of the Ombudsman has been drawn to articles in local tabloids about the sacking of approximately 100 staff members of Parliament and the non-payment of terminal benefits and other entitlements to over 300 former workers of the Sierra Leone Airport Authority.

The notice reads, “The Ombudsman would like to inform the general public that he has commenced investigations into the above matters as required by Section 7(a)(ii) and 7(b) of the Ombudsman Act No.2 of 1997, which outlines the functions of the Ombudsman in these types of situations.”

It adds that, “Section 7(a)(ii) provides that the functions of the Ombudsman are: “To investigate any administrative act of a prescribed authority in respect of which”: (ii) Information is received by him from any person or source, otherwise than by complaints, concerning the matters referred to in subparagraph (i)

(a) To take appropriate action to remedy, correct, or reverse the act complained of through such means as are fair, proper, and effective.
