MILE 91 POLICE INVESTIGATES YONI CHIEFDOM FIRE ACCIDENTS

By Kadijatu Hayles

Police authorities in Mali 91 have initiated an investigation into a distressing incident involving murder and conflagration in the villages of Mabureh and Mananie within the Yoni Chiefdom, located in Northern Sierra Leone. A team led by Commander Superintendent John S. Mansaray has been appointed to oversee the investigation and bring those responsible to justice.

According to a resident of Yoni Chiefdom, Mohamed Kamara, the incident is believed to have stemmed from a long-standing land dispute between the two villages. Kamara stated that it was alleged that the people of Mananie set fire to 28 houses in Mabureh village, resulting in the destruction of properties worth billions of Leones. Moreover, during this tumultuous period, a 15-year-old NPSE (National Primary School Examination) pupil was tragically shot and killed by individuals from Mananie.

These distressing events have evoked memories of Sierra Leone's 11-year civil war, casting a shadow over a country that has been striving to heal and rebuild. Sierra Leone is renowned for its religious and cultural tolerance, and such incidents are not reflective of the shared values and norms that form the fabric of its society. In light of this, it is imperative that disputes of this nature be resolved through peaceful means, such as engaging the tribal and traditional leaders within the community. In cases where resolution efforts are unsuccessful, referral to a magistrate court or involving the police would be more appropriate.

Given Sierra Leone's journey toward recovery and reconciliation following the civil war, it is crucial that violence is not seen as a solution to conflicts. The police authorities must exert their utmost efforts to swiftly conclude this investigation and bring an end to these troubling incidents to prevent future recurrences.

The Sierra Leonean society, as a whole, must work together to foster unity, understanding, and dialogue as the nation continues on its path towards long-lasting peace and development.
