MBSSE TO CONDUCT ANNUAL SCHOOL CENSUS

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has, in a press statement dated Friday, the 12th of January 2024, disclosed that it is conducting its annual school census to gather essential data on schools that will aid in the planning, improve the quality of education across the country and enhances effective reporting on global indicators.

This census is a crucial initiative adopted by the government that enables the ministry to access the current state of educational systems in Sierra Leone and make informed decisions for its enhancement.

 

Touching on the purpose of the census, it is updated that the annual school census is conducted to collect comprehensive information about schools, students, teachers, and infrastructure. The data is essential for formulating educational policies, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring every child can access quality education.

Regarding the definite timeline for the census, the Ministry affirms that the census will commence on the 22nd of January and conclude on the 9th of February 2024. During this period, enumerators, they said, will visit schools and educational institutions to gather the necessary information.

The Ministry, therefore, requests the full cooperation of school administrators, teachers, parents, and guardians during the exercise and that providing accurate and timely information is essential for the success of this initiative.
