Magistrate Court No.2 Charges Former President Koroma with Treason


Following an investigation on the November 26th failed coup, the Magistrate Court No.2, Presided over by Magistrate Santigie Bangura,  on the 3rd of January 2024, charged former President Ernest Bai Koroma with Trason. Former President Koroma is currently facing four counts of charges bordering on his active involvement in the November 26th failed coup with the premeditated intention to overthrow a sitting President Julius Maada Bio.

Former President Koroma is charged with four offenses, including treason, misprison of treason, and two counts of harboring. It could be recalled that the November 26th failed coup claimed the lives of over eighteen security officers. There is high public anticipation for the matter to be charged to the High Court of Sierra Leone for further probing.

However, the ECOWAS Commission has requested the Siera Leone Government to send former President Koroma on exile to Nigeria with one of his Personal Assistance and Office Manager. The ECOWAS Commission also requested that the government of Sierra Leone discontinue all legal and administrative procedures against former President Koroma, pay all his benefits as former President, and cover medical travel expenses.
