The District Manager of the Kono Athletics Team (KAT), Tamba Francis Farmar, has in a well-attended ceremony updated the public that the Kono Athletics Team is set to have a multi-purpose Athletics and other sporting village.

In an exclusive interview with the AIMNet Newspaper, the District manager of the Kono Athletics Team, Tamba Francis Farmar stated that through the help of the Gbense Chiefdom authorities, they had secured 40 acres of land which is adjacent to the unfinished Kono University of Science and Technology to establish athletics and other sporting disciplines.

"The Project is a multi-million dollar infrastructure that will bring dividends to the athletics and sporting disciplines in Kono District. I know for sure that it is a long-term project but it is good that the project has already started it", he said.

Farmar further underscored the merits of the Kono athletics team and other disciplines after the completion of the project. He stressed that Athletics Village shall be the hub of all athletics games, adding that Kono having such facilities, would create an open platform for international investors and consequently create more employment for young people.

He added that the athletics village would be of international standards for athletics and other sporting disciplines therefore, the team manager maintained that the Kono Athletics Team (KAT) is a newly established athletics association that aims to revamp the athletics discipline in the district since the discipline had died down in the district for far too long.

The astute and proactive manager of Kono Athletics Team, Tamba Francis Farmar nevertheless highlighted some of the factors that had affected the athletics discipline in the district. Among them he said, are the lack of athletics coaches, financial constraints, and disunity among the athletes in the district.

He pointed out that since their intervention, tremendous efforts had been made to address the challenges the district athletics discipline is faced with.

"We have tried to go back to the drawing board to ensure that the Kono Athletics regain its footing. To achieve that, we have established the Kono Athletics Team (KAT) of which I am the district manager, and we have some activities that we intend to undertake to make the discipline more attractive to young talents in the district", manager Tamba Francis Farmar assured.

He concluded his speech by noting that Kono District has a lot of young talented athletes and that if they have the required support, they would thrive in the sporting world. He intimated that the team is currently on trials at the regional level for the fourth coming national athletics games that would be staged on the 26th of December 2023 (Boxing Day) in Bo.

Farmar eventually called on all and sundry to fully support the Kono Athletics Team (KAT) to achieve their much-desired objective.
