By Fohad Mbaimba Kallay in Kono.

According to the  District Coordinator for the Kono Mineral Mining Review Project, Ibrahim A.S. Bockarie, the Review Project is a none- non-governmental Organization that is working on social justice and Development advocacy in the Mining Communities in the Kono  District. He added that they are working closely with stakeholders and policy reformers to improve the lives and livelihoods of the mining areas by addressing the historical Injustices in the environment, Mining, and the overall socio-economic Development of the inhabitants in the Mining Communities in Kono District.

Ibrahim A.S Bockarie underscored the rationale of establishing the Kono Mineral Mining Review Project organization in the district to educate the people of Kono to be fully aware of the Mining Act. He continued that Kono  District had been behind for the past years in the development area because the District has contributed significantly to the country's Development.

" The 11 years of civil war had unfortunately affected the people and the district as well, as most of their resources were carted away by the  Western people," He explained.

He disclosed that the colonial masters were not fair to the local people. They exploited the locals from their minerals and left with not much.

The coordinator for the Kono Mineral Mining Review Project (KMMRP) intimated that the  Kono  Mineral Mining Review Project was established to end the historical mining injustices in the Kono District.

He further stated that the Kono  District had suffered since 1930 when diamonds were first discovered. He said since then, the district could not boast of development in the district. He said it's recent, particularly in the  Bio's led government, which they had started seeing impacts of the proceeds of diamonds and gold.

He said that the organization would work with the government and other organizations in the Mining sector to ensure they educate people about government policy on Mining.

He expressed optimism for the organization’s ability to address the historical injustices in the Kono District. He assured that it would also work with local authorities to develop the district. He called on all and sundry to deviate from illegal Mining in Kono District.
