As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility in Kono District, the Koidu Limited Mining Company has officially handed over a multi-million leones resource center to Women in Development. The official handing over occurred at the Kissi Bona Community in Koidu City, Tankoro Chiefdom, Kono District.
Giving an overview of the multi-million Leones resource center to Women in Development Sierra Leone, Henry Vagg, the Community Development Affairs Manager of Koidu Limited Mining Company, disclosed that the resource center comprises a guest house, Electricity, and other facilities. He said Koidu Limited Mining Company single-handedly financed the project through the Community Development Action Plan (CDAP) budget.
" The Development proposal document was submitted to the Koidu Limited Mining Company on behalf of the Women in Development Sierra Leone by Honorable Rebecca Yei Sam with advocacy support from Honorable Paramount Chief Paul Ngaba Saquee of Tankoro Chiefdom in Kono District years ago," he said.
He maintained that the Development is to showcase the company's continual commitment to supporting Community priorities and networking with Community stakeholders and government functionaries in the transformation process of Kono District and the country by an extension.
He assured the company's continued support as part of their cooperative social responsibilities, ensuring the coexistence of the company and the people for the betterment of the district and the country.
Honorable Rebecca Yei Sam applauded Koidu Limited Mining Company for the development they undertook to aid the women in the district for a long time. She said that the facilities will positively impact the lives of women in the district. She stressed that the resource center would also create job opportunities and serve as a gateway for other mining companies operating in the district to replicate the steps taken by Koidu Limited Mining Company.
Honourable Paramount Chief Paul Ngaba Saquee of Tankoro Chiefdom in Kono expressed his gratitude to Koidu Limited Mining Company for striving to elevate longtime challenges. He added that the resource center would bring more dividends. He called on the Women to utilize the facilities for their intended purposes.
The District Coordinator for Women in Development (WIND) Sierra Leone, Hannah Charles Alie, commended Koidu Limited Mining Company, both Honourable PC Paul Ngaba Saquee and Honourable Rebecca Yei Sam, the Town Chief of Kissi Bona Community also NMJD, for the accomplishment of the multi-purpose resource center.
" This Resource center has been a long-standing dream. We are happy for such an opportunity given to them," she said.
She applied to other organizations and Mining Companies to aid them with chairs and water facilities, among other things. She assured the proper utilization of the Resources center for its intended aim and objectives.
Other speakers made meaningful contributions and applauded the Koidu Limited Mining Company for such Development.
