KDC FACILITATES CONSTRUCTION OF CULVERTS IN SANDOR CHIEFDOM

In a bid to address connectivity and easy movement in the district, Kono District Council, with funds from the Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA), has officially handed over contracts for the construction of culverts in Farkongofeh Section, Sandor Chiefdom in Kono District, Eastern Region of the Republic of Sierra Leone. The official handing over ceremony, which took place on the 11th of September 2024 at the section town, Sandor Chiefdom in Kono District, brought together the Chairman and Deputy Chairperson of Kono District Council, councilors, core staff, chiefdom authorities, contractors, local people, and the media among others.

The Chairman of Kono District Council, Augustine Sahr Sheku, highlighted the critical roles of feeder roads, noting how they enhance the livelihoods of the local farmers. He stressed that improved road connectivity is essential for allowing local farmers to transport their produce to the city and ensuring they receive fair value for their local products.

" The construction of these culverts is not just about infrastructure; it is about empowering our local farmers and boosting the economy. Better roads mean easier market access, which translates to better income for our farmers", Chairman Augustine Sahr Sheku disclosed. He said that the initiative marks the beginning of the construction of 7 culverts aimed at improving the local infrastructure in the Chiefdom. Sheku also updated that the project supported by RMFA is expected to significantly improve the transportation network within the Farkongofeh Section, facilitating smoother and safer travel for the people and further underscoring the project's merits. He added that the said development is part of the broader strategy by the Kono District Council with the primary goal of enhancing infrastructure and promoting sustainable development across the 14 Chiefdoms in the Kono District. He further stated, “With continued aid from RFMA, the council aims to implement more projects that will benefit the people and contribute to the development of the district. I therefore urge the beneficiaries of this project to fully support the council for a successful outcome, and I would assure everyone of quality work”, he affirmed.

Engineer Ibrahim Karbia of the Kono District Council disclosed the technicalities involved in the construction process. He further stated that the residents should act as watchdogs to ensure proper monitoring and standard work is done.

 The Chiefdom authorities, including the councilor who covers the section (Farkongofeh) and other areas, thanked the government of Sierra Leone through the District Council Chairman for addressing their felt need. They ensured proper project monitoring in their section for the good of the Chiefdom.
