INDIGENOUS BISHOP ORDAINS TWO (2) REV. FATHERS IN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF MAKENI


In a historic ceremony held on Saturday 2nd December 2023 at the Diocesan pastoral Information and Development Center in Makeni, the Catholic Diocese of Makeni celebrated the ordination of two Reverend Fathers by its first indigenous Bishop. The momentous event marked a significant milestone for both the diocese and the local clergy.


The Most Reverend Bishop Dr. John Bob Hassan Koroma, the first indigenous bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Makeni, presided over the ordination ceremony with great joy and spiritual fervor. The Bishop, known for his unwavering commitment to promoting the faith and empowering the local community, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to ordain the two new priests.


During his inspiring homily, Bishop Bob Hassan Koroma drew from the teachings of the Gospel of John (15:9-16) to emphasize the importance of love, service, and discipleship. He highlighted the words of Jesus, who commanded his disciples to love one another as he had loved them and to go forth and bear fruit that would endure. The bishop emphasized the significance of these teachings in guiding the newly ordained priests in their future pastoral endeavors.


The Vicar General, Reverend Dominic Arnold Johnson, played a pivotal role in the ordination ceremony. He presented the two candidates for ordination, who had completed their extensive theological studies and discernment process, to Bishop Koroma Reverend Johnson, known for his wisdom and dedication to the diocese, addressed the candidates, encouraging them to embrace their roles as priests with humility, compassion, and unwavering faith.


Amidst a congregation filled with family, friends, and well-wishers, the newly ordained priests received their roles and responsibilities as priests from Reverend Dominic Johnson. The congregation erupted in applause and prayers, expressing their joy and support for the newly ordained clergy.


The ordination of these two Reverend Fathers not only signifies a personal achievement for the individuals involved but also reflects the growing indigenous leadership within the Catholic Diocese of Makeni. This development is a testament to the diocese's commitment to nurturing and empowering local clergy, enabling them to serve their communities with deep cultural understanding and spiritual guidance.


Following their ordination, the newly appointed priests Rev Fr Victor Michael Kargbo and Rev Fr Andrew A Bangura will have to embark on their pastoral assignments within the diocese, ministering to the spiritual needs of the faithful and carrying out the sacraments. Their ordination he added marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of service, prayer, and devotion to the Catholic Church and the people they are called to serve.


The Catholic Diocese of Makeni, under the leadership of its first indigenous Bishop, continues to strive for spiritual growth, community development, and the promotion of Christian values.
