In Kono…PARAMOUNT CHIEFS RECOMMIT TO SUPPORT PRES. BIO POLICIES

By Fohad Mbaimba Kallay in Kono

The Newly appointed Chairman of the Council of Paramount Chiefs Kono District, Paramount Chief Sahr Edward Mbawa, the third of Gbane Kandor Chiefdom in Kono District, has intimated AimNet Newspaper that Paramount Chiefs are Agents of  Government’s Development, adding that they are committed to enforcing and domesticating government policies in their respective chiefdoms across Kono District.

The Chairman of the Council of Paramount Chiefs in Kono  P.C Mbawa disclosed this in an exclusive interview with AimNet Newspaper. He said that custodians of the land play a pivotal role in ensuring government policies and development are enforced and implemented in their chiefdoms, particularly the hard-to-reach communities.

" We make sure that our people in our Chiefdoms are fully aware of government policies and the Development activities the government intends to do for the Chiefdoms across the country," he said.

He stressed that Paramount Chiefs also stand to enforce government policies in their various villages and Chiefdoms across the country, respectively, for their subjects to fully adhere to government policies. He added that, as custodians of the land, they also support the government in instituting by-laws as a security threat to the people, health emergencies in the case of an outbreak in the Chiefdoms, and the country as a whole to combat it.

He noted that they usually have Community meetings, publications, and education on what the government intends and is expected to do, ensuring the success of the central government's Developmental plans for their people.

" We interface with our people daily, and they highly respect us. If any head of government wants to succeed, he must work closely with the Paramount Chiefs across the country for the state's peace, Development, and stability. And we are government agents of development," he maintained.

The Chairman Council of Paramount Chiefs in Kono District, Paramount Chief Edward Sahr, the third of Gbane Kandor Chiefdom, further explained that instituting by-laws in their different Chiefdoms had been greatly appreciated by all and had aided the peaceful co-existence among their people for the Development of peace and stability of their various Chiefdoms.

PC Mbawa made it clear that Paramount Chiefs are not partisans of any political party in the country. However, he said they give maximum support to the ruling government, and they also work closely with any government to facilitate the Development and policies of the state for the good of their people.

He disclosed that over the years, they had been described as partisans for the various political parties in the country.

" Listen, let me tell you we are Paramount Chiefs. We give full support to the government of the day, and there is no problem about it. And if we don't support the government of the day, we are destroying the Development of the people," he admonished.

He narrated that even though they were highly respected in their Chiefdoms by their people, they could not develop their Chiefdoms without the total support of the government of the Republic of Sierra Leone through the local councils.

He said that no Paramount Chief could brag about providing electricity supply, healthcare facilities, a good road network, or universities for his or her people in the various Chiefdoms without the total involvement of the central government of Sierra Leone.

He called on all and sundry at home and abroad to join forces with the government for the country’s development through teamwork, unity, and respect for the rule of laws of the state. He said that with love, Sierra Leone would be a great nation. He also discouraged tribalism among the people of Kono.
