The Chiefdom authorities of Gbane Chiefdom in Kono District, Eastern region of the Republic of Sierra Leone, have expressed their dismay over the poor rehabilitation work of the pipe bone water facility in the Chiefdom headquarters, Ngandorhum town.
The Chiefdom authorities, headed by the seating Paramount Chief of Gbane Chiefdom, Kono District, Paramount Chief Aiah Bindi Fenfan Kongor, stated that the only pipe bone water facility in the needs immediate attention. He said that the current state of the water facility in the community is worrisome, particularly during the dries, adding that the poor state of the water came as a result of the substandard materials that were used during the rehabilitation process.
The rehabilitation of the pipe bone water facility was disturbed by the 11 years of civil war in the country, and Peace Swing continued the work after the brutal civil war in the country.
He notified this medium that " During President Bio's first term, the Sierra Leone Water Company rehabilitated the facility but asserted that it was not properly carried out."
Paramount Chief Aiah Bindi Fenfan Kongor of Gbane Chiefdom in Kono District further stated that he only had a telephone conversation with the contractor and that they had never seen each other.
Hon. Sia Hawa Habiama Tommy is a member of Parliament in Kono District on the ticket of the ruling Sierra Leone People's Party ( SLPP). In her efforts to address the town's water challenges, she donated NLE 2,800 to fix the faulty facility. She promised to engage the Chairman of the water Committee in the well of Parliament to bring the contractor to book.
The Development and Planning Officer attached to the Kono District Council, Sahr George Ndoinjah, noted that GIS CONSTRUCTION company was awarded the contract to rehabilitate the pipe Bone water facility through the Sierra Leone Water Company (SLWCO) and the process was not correctly carried out effectively. " He stated that the Chairman of the Kono District Council, Augustine Sahr Sheku, has already contacted the Managing Director of SLWCO on the matter and revealed that they have received his attention and now have the necessary documents on their desk," he said.
He said that the council had visited several Communities to gather their concerns about Water challenges and other challenges they face.
Ngandorhu is a fair big Chiefdom headquarters of Gbane Chiefdom, and it's miles away from the city of Koidu.
