BLPF PRIORITIZES HEALTH & HYGIENE SUSTAINABILITY

By Morlai Sesay

A recent legwork visit to a local community on the outskirts of Freetown in Wellington called Bambao is situated at a prominent poultry farm named Bambao Local Poultry Farm. During the visit, the AIMNet Newspaper discovered a steadfast commitment to excellence manifested through stringent biosecurity measures aimed at preventing disease outbreaks.

The farm enforces controlled access to its facilities, with visitors and staff strictly adhering to rigorous hygiene protocols and undergoing thorough sanitation procedures.

Dr. David Fengai, the poultry veterinarian, emphasized that staff members receive regular training to uphold the highest biosecurity standards. This proactive approach, he explained, serves as a crucial safeguard against potential health risks to the poultry flock.

Dr. Fengai highlighted that the facility implements regular cleaning and sanitization routines, underlining its dedication to cleanliness. High-touch surfaces, equipment, and the living quarters for the chickens are meticulously cleaned and disinfected according to a strict schedule. This meticulous attention to cleanliness, he maintained, creates a hygienic environment, minimizing the risk of disease transmission and contributing to the overall well-being of the poultry.

Beyond health considerations, the farm actively addresses environmental concerns associated with poultry farming. The facility engages in responsible waste management practices, including composting and recycling of poultry by-products. Additionally, implementing eco-friendly alternatives underscores the farm’s commitment to sustainable practices.

This holistic approach, covering health, hygiene, and sustainability, is a beacon of forward-thinking in ethical poultry farming practices within the industry. Bambao's dedication to excellence sets a commendable standard for local poultry farms, demonstrating that a focus on health and sustainability can go hand in hand for the betterment of the industry.
