In Kalu Town Yaa- Kemoh Kpukumu Krim Chiefdom Pujehun District, the newly constructed primary health care unit hospital funded by the BADEA (Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa) faces a grave threat from bat infestation. The bats have taken over the entire building, causing significant damage and rendering the hospital non-functional. The situation has raised concerns among the local community and officials, urging the government to take immediate action.

Joseph Jiah, the in-charge of the hospital, expressed his frustration over the challenges faced by the hospital while efforts are being made by the central government to provide the necessary resources for the hospital's operation; the bat infestation has proven to be a significant obstacle. Despite being just three years old, the hospital is overrun by bats, compromising patients’ and staff’s health and safety.

Paramount Chief Maltinda Yayieu Minnah, the leader of the Krim Chiefdom, voiced her disappointment with the current state of the hospital; according to the project documents, the hospital was meant to be equipped with functioning electronic gadgets. However, the reality is far from the promised state, as the bats have taken control of the building, preventing the hospital from operating as intended. Chief Minnah called on the government to pay urgent attention to the situation and ensure that the hospital receives the necessary support to become a fully functional healthcare facility.

Mariama Sannoh, a lactating mother, described the building's exterior as impressive, but her experience inside was far from satisfactory. The hospital lacks basic facilities and services, including running water taps, a reliable electricity supply, and a proper road network. Sannoh criticized the government, stating that the hospital's construction in the community now appears futile and wasteful, as the building is not being used effectively and the medical equipment remains non-functional due to the bat infestation.

The bat infestation has severely impacted the hospital's ability to provide essential healthcare services to the people of Kalu Town and its surrounding areas. The situation calls for immediate intervention from the government to address the bat infestation, repair the damages, and provide the necessary resources to convert the hospital into a fully operational and well-equipped healthcare facility. The community and local officials eagerly await the government's response to this pressing issue, hoping to transform the hospital into a model healthcare center that can cater to the healthcare needs of the district.
