8 ARRESTED AT JENDEMA CEMETERY IN POSSESSION OF KUSH

By Hassan Juana Koroma

In a successful joint operation conducted by the Jendema operations team and community leaders, a total of eight male suspects were apprehended at the Kambawukor cemetery for illegal possession of the drug known as Kush. The operation, which took place on Saturday, resulted in the arrest of Mohamed Freeman, Abubakar Mansaray, Ishmael Mansaray, Alusine Massaquoi, and Ibrahim Sandy, all residents of Jendema town.

The suspects had resorted to seeking refuge in the cemetery, possibly in an attempt to evade detection and capture by both community stakeholders and law enforcement agencies. However, their plans were foiled by the swift action of the operations team and community authorities, who acted promptly in response to the intelligence received.

The prevalence of drug abuse, particularly the consumption of Kush, has been an ongoing concern in Jendema and surrounding areas. Despite the government's efforts to combat drug abuse, it appears that some individuals, especially the youth, are finding creative ways to circumvent the authorities and continue their drug-related activities.

Reports indicate that in addition to seeking solace in cemeteries, where they believe they are less likely to be discovered, some young people have also been using local canoes to venture into the middle of rivers for the purpose of smoking Kush. This behavior has been described as both concerning and frustrating by community members and leaders, who are determined to address the issue and ensure a drug-free environment in their towns.

Following the operation, community leaders commended the efforts of the operations team and expressed gratitude for their prompt response and successful apprehension of the suspects. They urged all residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may be related to drug trafficking or abuse.

The arrested suspects are currently in police custody awaiting trial. Authorities are continuing their efforts to combat drug trafficking and intensify measures aimed at maintaining a drug-free environment in Jendema town and its surrounding areas. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug abuse and the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and community members in addressing this pervasive issue.

As the authorities work towards the eradication of drug-related activities, it is hoped that increased awareness, education, and community involvement would contribute to a healthier and safer environment for the residents of Jendema and the wider society.
