Chernor Conteh, a 22-year-old employed man, was on Monday, 15th January 2024, sent to prison by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No1 for allegedly being found in possession of two short guns and cartridges.
The accused made his first appearance and was arraigned on three counts charges of Unlawful Possession of small arms without license contrary to section 11(1) of the Arms and ammunitions Act No 9 of 2012, having I'm control of small arms without a license, and unlawful concealment of arms contrary to regulation 22 of the arms and ammunitions regulations of 2014.
According to the indictments on count one, it was alleged that the accused, on the 29th December 2023, at Concern Pump, Kissy Town Waterloo, was found in possession of one short gun and two short cartridges without a license.
The police further alleged on count two that the accused, on the same date and place, was found in control of one short gun and two short gun cartridges without a license.
Whiles count three added that the accused was found in possession of the said gun without authorization. When the charges were read and explained to him, no plea was taken, and no legal representation was made on his behalf.
Magistrate Kekura refused bail and adjourned the matter to the 23rd of January, 2024. Police Sergeant 9939 Lahai M is prosecuting the matter on behalf of the Inspector General of police.
