$17,000 Fraud At Adonkia Police Station Businessman On Remand

 Gabriel Alie Bangura, a Businessman, was sent on remand on Monday, February 5th, 2024, by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 for an alleged 17 thousand United States dollars fraud vehicle fraud at Adonkia Police Station.

The accused made his first appearance and was charged with one count of Obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of the offense, it was alleged that the accused, on the 15th December 2023 at Adonkia police station in the western Area,  with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of seventeen thousand united states dollars equivalent to the sum of three hundred and ninety-five thousand Leones(395,000) from Ibrahim Koroma by falsely pretending that he has a Toyota vehicle to him for sale knowing same to be false.

 

When the charge was read and explained to the accused, he pleaded not guilty. Counsel representing the accused person, A.O Gbla, applied for bail on his behalf, citing section 79 sub-section 2 of the Criminal Procedure Act No32 of 1965.

The prosecutor, police Sergeant Dwight Macarthy, in reply, objected to the application for bail made by the defense counsel by an affidavit in opposition.

 Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused to the male correctional center in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to February 13, 2024, for further hearing.  Sergeant 9155 Dwight Macarthy is prosecuting the matter.
